18/3/08 Tuesday

Today was interim 2.... Julian watched our video and seem to enjoy it... He mentioned a few things that could be improved.... but other than that it was good.... Hui Zhen and Noverm made the changes.... I can't believe it we are all done.... only the documentation part to go..... YEHHHH!!

This is the cd cover.... done by Kong... nice rite :)

17/03/08 Monday

Since tomorrrow was intrim 2, we did more touch ups on the video...... i think we are actually almost done.... we just need to hear Julian's comments to make the last few changes..... Noverm did the credits again as it was moving too fast ..I guess we only got the motion gaphic part to do....

14/03/08 Friday

Today Rachel and i did the trailer... it was so much better than yesterday.... it went really smoothly... we had no problems... it was easy working with her.... So after finishing it, i asked Hui Zhen for her comment and she liked it .... yipeee!!! hmmm... i guess thats about it...

13/03/08 Thusday

As we were already on our way of to completing the video, Hui Zhen suggested that we should do a trailer. I volunteered to do it. She ask Rachel to help me.... since Hui Zhen and Novem were editing...... So we left to find music for the trailer at 3d lab... Since i already had a brief idea on how i want the trailer to be.... i found the music easily .... but it took a long time downloading it .....

When we returned to hereafter, Noverm and Hui Zhen had already left for the diploma show.... but Hui Zhen had left her hard drive containing the exported quicktime clip of our video...... So we imported the file and the music we found into FCP...... but FCP could not read the music file.... i asked Guna for help and he told us that we can't import MP3 files.

So we left to audio room to convert the file from MP3 TO AIFF.... it took some time as we had to wait for our turn to use the computer there.... So after converting the files we import it back into FCP.... As we were cutting the scenes according to the music, there were drop frames each time we play it back..... it was really irritating.... We called Guna again, and after checking he explained that we had exported it in a very low format and so that was why we had drop frame...

As the original file is in Hui Zhen's account we called her up, ask for her passwords and re exported in DVCPRO HD format....it took such a long time to render .... before it can even complete rendering .... Guna told us to cancel it as it was late and he had to close the lab....

hmmm... we spent so much of hours and yet it all went to waste... hopefully tomorrow we will be able to do it...

12/03/08 Wednesday

We all took a break today as most of the group are involved in the diploma show.....so i stayed at home..... i think we all deserve it.. the past weeks have been really exhausting...

11/03/08 Tuesday

Hmmm..... today we worked more on the audio...
we try to adjust the pacing and add in more sounds ....
We worked on transitions...
and changed a little here and there in terms of the video....
i believe we are going at the right track.....
Kudos to us :)

10/04/08 Monday

Today , Rachel and I was in-charge of the credits, Noverm and Hui Zhen recorded the voice overs and Kong and Yijie did some motion graphics. Because we separated workload we managed to do a lot of stuffs.... We still got a little bit more to do....mostly audio stuffs.

For the VO:

Old ToTo- Nick ( Originally it was supposed to be Kong but Nick was really good and so we used him)
Little Mato- Froggy ( She was really good.... it fit little Mato perfectly.
Narrator- Nick

Me doing the credits.... hmmm livetype is not that tricky after all...

Noverm finding for the perfect sound effect from the music library..... look how intense she is...haha

Nicholas reciting the VO while Hui Zhen makes sure that he is saying it right....

7/03/08 Friday

argghhhh i was still sick today.... so i absent again.... i
am feeling very useless.... i called up and check on how things are going...
It seems that they have edited about half....
still a long way to go in terms of audio and all....
I feel kinda left out...
soooo wanted to edit .....
On Monday, i should really do my part..

6/04/08 Thursday

Today i was feeling sick... caught a bad cold.... probably because of the rain yesterday...
So anyway i did not go to school... i heard the rest of my group starting editing ..... God i feel so guilty not helping them out but Hui Zhen assured me to rest at home..... hope things went fine for them today.... I hope i will be fine tomorrow..

5/04/08 Wednesday

Today we had to re-shoot because yesterday when Noverm
and Hui Zhen went to transfer the files, they had a problem
and some scenes were missing......
So we shoot the few scenes and we were done....
Today was pretty relaxing ... that's good..
Hopefully this time around... all the scenes will be
transferred without any problem.
Well i am so sleepy so i am gonna hit the sack.. *yawns*

4/3/08 Tuesday

Today was our 2nd day of production... We managed to do a lot today ....we think we have finish filming but we first must import it to FCP to see if we have hit 4 mins...*crosses fingers*

We are trying to make little Mato move.

Little Mato is supposed to fall from the fence....it was challenging to do it without seeing our fingers or the satay stick.

We could not find a durian who was the initial cast..... too bad it was not the durian season.... so Rachel and I got a pineapple instead.... actually from far it does look a durian ... No??

This was the most gruesome and the most funniest scene we ever did... it was soo funny... Rachel insisted that the juice and the seed should come out * LAUGHS* .... It was actually kinda smelly... haha but we did have fun... poor Mato's stuntmen..

Kong cutting the top portion of the set for our last scene.... haha... he is so hesitant to cut it.... but a little convincing did the trick.

3/3/08 Monday

Today was our first day of production ...Yippee!!

We did more scenes then we planned... surprisingly things went really fast and well.. At this rate we might be finish with filming tomorrow... That's really fast.

Our cast are ready for their makeup...

Our makeup artist is all ready...

A little makeup goes a long way.....haha

Hui Zhen is painting Pine Pine's cave....

I am handling the camera while, Noverm moves the casts..... its good we take turns to handle the camera... rather than one person hogging it..

It actually went really well,in spite of a little hitch initially. We spend some time placing the lightings at different positions as it was difficult finding the right positions to get the desired effect. Some positions made the set really bright and others created harsh shadows.

So after analysing the situation we decided to stick with house lights. It was so much better... And then while we were filming, we a lecturer came in and said that he is having his class. Since Julian told us that he had booked the classroom for us, we really did not see it coming. Thank god Julian came in and solved the confusion. The room was in such a mess and the students were waiting outside the class.

We don't have to change our location.. well at least for today... :)

29/2/8 Friday

We has presentation today... Julian liked our progress so far and gave us the green signal to go ahead with the filming.

Hmmmm.. then we went to borrow the filming equipments and then did some final touches on our set design.... I made more trees *groans* and Rachel did more mountains....

Our dear Yiejie has access to the students lounge so we could put our set and the filming equipments there safely.. YES!!!!..... see it is so good to have such person in the group.... don't have to carry (*shudders* )all the equipments home. Whew...

28/2/08 Tursday

Things are already looking good.. hehe.. can't wait to start the real filming!!!

Test Run

Rachel and I working on the Powerpoint document.. tomorrow presentation

I am making the trees for our tomato farm.... it looks easy but doesn't it.... no its real tiresome...haha

Kong really focused.... he is so dedicated in coming up with the perfect tomato farm... real god art director.... he almost single handedly painted the cardboards with yi jie's help of course... Kudos to him.

Rachel and me making the mountains.... oh god.... the plasticine is so damn hard.... really no energy to flatten it.. haha.. but Rachel is very good.. In fact she is so good that we make her do most of the mountains... poor thing..

Who knew tomatoes can be this cute? :)

Nights of storyboarding are finally taking a toll on Noverm... she must be really tired..

Voila, our tomato farm is almost done.

Can't stop taking pictures... we really did a good job.
We worked as group really well... thanks guys!!!

27/2/08 Wednesday

Wow this is soooo cool!!!! Hui Zhen showed me this stop motion video. Now i have a rough idea on the outcome of our video... Wish we could be this good..... Lots of hard work needed... haha... hmmm... i had no idea that we could this with stop motion.... really cool...

After getting Juilian's approval we separated the task. While Hui Zhen and Noverm come up with the storyboard and script, Kong and Yijie find cardboard and paint the set , Rachel and i went to buy the props. We bought wire mesh.... carpet grass( Woah it cost a bomb), plastercines and so much more for the set design....It was so fun

26/2/08 Tuesday

We are having so much fun.. haha..

In class, We voted on the fable Noverm choose, " The princess and the pea". We spend the rest of the class time coming with our own rendition of the princess and the pea fable. We came up with some really funny story line but at the end of the day they could not meet the objective of the assignment.

After class, we continued to brainstorm. All of us finally decided to move on to another fable. It was between the fables Rachel and I choose. As we discussed more , all of us decided to choose the “Boy who cried whole fable”. Novem mentioned about using apples instead of human . Hui Zhen agreed that stop motion will be cool and Novem mentioned about using apples as casts.*WHAT*! Honestly, I prefer working with humans , coming up with wardrobe , location and all the things that come with the normal video type. I really did not want stop motion and I told them. Both Novem and Hui Zhen continue to convince about their stop motion idea . I was wishing really hard that rest of them won’t buy the idea but one by one caved in . Left without choice, I reluctantly agreed. It is not that I don’t like to try something new but I am just not a big fan of stop motion and all. Suppressing my dislikes, I gave suggestions on the storyline and how the set should look like. I volunteered to do the scrip but Novem said she knew the story better and decided she will do it.

Maybe stop motion won't be so bad after all ..... *fingers crossed*

25/2/08, Monday

My group decided that we go back and scan through the fables and choose one we like and come up with our own storyline based on the chosen fables. When I went back, I went through the list of the fables. There were so many and I had time choosing just one. After much thought I decided I liked two fables and I saw some real potential in them. I decided to pick both of them, come with a storyline and present it to the group tomorrow and see how it goes. These are the two fables

The Shepherd's Boy and the Wolf

A Shepherd boy, who watched a flock of sheep near a village, brought out the villagers three or four times by crying out,” Wolf! Wolf!" and when his neighbours came to help him, laughed at them for their pains. The Wolf, however, did truly come at last. The Shepherd-boy, now really alarmed, shouted in an agony of terror: "Pray, do come and help me; the Wolf is killing the sheep"; but no one paid any heed to his cries, nor rendered any assistance. The Wolf, having no cause of fear, at his leisure lacerated or destroyed the whole flock.

Bear and the Two Travellers

Two men were travelling together, when a Bear suddenly met them on their path. One of them climbed up quickly into a tree and concealed himself in the branches. The other, seeing that he must be attacked, fell flat on the ground, and when the Bear came up and felt him with his snout, and smelt him all over, he held his breath, and feigned the appearance of death as much as he could. The Bear soon left him, for it is said he will not touch a dead body. When he was quite gone, the other Traveller descended from the tree, and jocularly inquired of his friend what it was the Bear had whispered in his ear. "He gave me this advice," his companion replied. "Never travel with a friend who deserts you at the approach of danger."
